Two-step fix for Windows 10’s “this app can’t open” error

STEP 1:

Press Windows Key + R and run secpol.msc.

STEP 2:

When you have Local Security Policy open, navigate to the following directory: Local Policies > Security Options. Over here, you have to scroll to the very bottom and find the following Policy “User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account“.

By default, this option is disabled, you have to double click on this policy and change the option from disabled to enabled.

STEP 3:

Now, press the Windows Key + S and search for UAC to bring up User Account Control settings.

STEP 4:

Bring the knob down to the very bottom option of “Never Notify“, When you do this, press OK and reboot the system.

When you’re back on the OS after a restart, be sure to check if it worked by running a native metro app such as Edge, Mail, Alarm, etc.

As you can see, the error isn’t as cumbersome as many make it out to be. These steps have had repeated success on 2 installations of Windows 10 on the same build, so if you are also seeing this error after the November 10th update, there is a good chance that it will work for you too.
